22 The Chuck Knoblauch hot dog game on May 2, 2001, in which the one-time Twins All-Star returned as a Yankee and was pelted with Dollar Dogs from Twins fans while playing left field.

 

23 The addition of air conditioning in 1983, enabling fans to watch games during hot, humid days in relative comfort. At the very least, it gave Dome bashers less to complain about.

 

24 Kirby Puckett’s public memorial service after his unexpected death following a stroke in March 2006, only eight days shy of his 46th birthday.

 

25 Of the many milestones achieved in the Dome, here’s an important piece of trivia: The Metrodome has been the site of the most 3,000-hit games in the majors: Dave Winfield in 1993, Eddie Murray in 1995 and Cal Ripken Jr. in 2000.

    That’s a fond farewell to the Metrodome after 31 years, or a measure of the time we endured it.

  • CARLOS GONZALEZ ï cgonzalez@startribune.com November 4, 2007 ñ Minneapolis, MN ñ The Metrodome ñ NFL ñ Minnesota Vikings vs. San Diego Chargers ñ Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson scored on a 46-yard run in the fourth quarter. Adrian Peterson set an NFL single game rushing record with 296 total yards. Minnesota beat San Diego by a final score of 35-17.

  • Vikings vs Atlanta for the NFC Championship at the Metrodome 1/17/99 -- After getting, what he thought was a late hit, Gary Anderson watches his kick miss the mark in the 4th quarter. His first miss of the year, and no doubt his most important.

  • Kirby Puckett celebrated the Twins’ second World Series championship in 1991.

  • Dave Winfield played late in his pro baseball career with the Minnesota Twins. Here, Winfield acknowledges the Metrodome crowd after getting his 3,000th career hit, Thurs Sept 16, 1993.
