Continued: Vikings win, Ponder injured after guiding comeback

The Redskins scored on all four of their possessions in the first half and led 24-14. They rolled up 288 total yards and 18 first downs. They converted seven of eight third-down attempts, which enabled them to control the ball for 20 minutes, 40 seconds.

The Redskins’ ease in moving the ball was reminiscent of Green Bay’s offensive dominance two weeks ago. The Packers scored on all eight possessions before ending the game with kneel-downs, did not punt once and converted 13 of 18 third-down opportunities.

Griffin completed 16 of 21 for 179 yards and three touchdowns with a 140.7 passer rating before halftime. Alfred Morris rushed 17 times for 88 yards.

Williams let his players have it at halftime.

“He was more fired up than I’ve ever seen,” Frazier said. “But it was good. We needed it. We needed a kick in the pants.”

The Vikings responded with an inspired effort in the second half. They even forced a punt, which is something they didn’t do against the Green Bay Packers at home two weeks ago or in the first half Thursday night.

That led to a giddy response by Frazier when asked about seeing a punt.

“I was going, ‘Hurrah, hurrah,’ ” he said, arms raised above his head. “We got another one and another one. We’re going to do this the second half of the season. We’ll make people punt.”
