Vikings draft, pick by pick

  • Updated: April 28, 2013 - 7:25 AM

First round (23rd overall)

SHARRIF FLOYD

Defensive tackle, Florida, 6-3, 295 pounds

•In 37 games at Florida (26 starts), had 115 tackles, 26 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks and three blocked field goals. In 2012 he had 46 tackles, 13 for loss, with a forced fumble and three sacks. Was first-team all-SEC by both the media and the coaches.

The quote: “He has the combination not only to play the run but to rush the passer inside as well.” — Vikings GM Rick Spielman.

First round (25th)

XAVIER RHODES

Cornerback, Florida State, 6-2, 217 pounds

• Started 38 of 43 games in college, emerging as one of the top cover corners in college football. In 2012 he had 10 passes defensed and three interceptions. The third pick — the eighth in his career — came in ACC championship game. Very capable in press coverage. Finished college career with 140 tackles — 112 solo — eight picks and 23 passes defensed.

The quote: “We feel he’ll come in and mach up with some of the receivers in our division.” — Vikings coach Leslie Frazier.

First round (29th)

CORDARRELLE PATTERSON

Wide receiver, Tennessee, 6-3, 205 pounds

• After impressive junior college career, went to Tennessee and had 46 receptions for 778 yards and five TDs in only full season with the Vols. Has great size and speed, is versatile both carrying the ball and returning it. But his skill needs refining and there are questions about his hands. Athletic ability and return ability fills needs on the team.

The quote: “I feel like I’m ready. I only played one year [at Tennessee]. I had to go the JUCO route. That JUCO route made me who I am today. Now I’m ready for the big leagues.”
