Former Viking Darrion Scott arrested in assault

Former Vikings defensive lineman Darrion Scott was arrested Wednesday by Eden Prairie police for "probable cause felony assault" and a search warrant was executed at his residence.

Scott, who was arrested around 3:30 p.m., was booked into Hennepin County jail on one count of assault, one count of assault/domestic and one count of malicious punishment of a child. A news release from the Eden Prairie police said the "case is currently under investigation" and a spokeswoman for the department said no further information would be made available Wednesday.

Scott, a third-round pick by the Vikings in 2004 from Ohio State, spent the past four seasons with the Vikings and is currently a free agent. He started 28 games between 2005 and 2006 and led the team with 5.5 sacks two years ago. Last season, a broken foot landed Scott on injured reserve in October after only four games.

The Vikings expressed little interest in bringing back Scott, who has been on the market since free agency opened in late February. He has had free-agent visits with New England and Washington.

This isn't Scott's first trouble with the law. The 26-year-old was cited last December for misdemeanor marijuana possession and ticketed for failure to signal after being pulled over by officers in Charleston, W.Va. That incident occurred after Scott had been allowed to return home because he was on injured reserve. Scott also pleaded to careless driving in Hennepin County district court in June 2006 and paid a $500 fine.

Scott's agent, Tim DiPiero, said Wednesday evening that he was trying to find out details about his client's arrest. "I have no information and couldn't comment at this time because I don't know anything about it," DiPiero said.
