The newest Vikings

FIFTH ROUND

NO. 137

John David Booty • QB • Southern Cal

Height: 6-3 Weight: 213 Age: 23

Born: Jan. 3, 1985, in Shreveport, La.

Bottom line: A starter for two seasons, Booty was slowed because of a fractured middle finger on his throwing hand last season. He missed three games. Had 215 completions in 340 attempts for 2,361 yards with 23 TDs and 10 interceptions in 2007. Started 23 games for the Trojans, throwing for 6,125 yards (518 of 832) with 55 TDs and 21 picks. Scouts feel he is a good fit for a team that runs the West Coast system used by the Vikings.

Booty on the Vikings: "I met with them at the Senior Bowl and I talked with their coaches after the practices and knew they were interested. I just didn't know how high or low they would end up taking a quarterback or when I would still be around, late or early."

NO. 152

Letroy Guion • DT • Florida State

Height: 6-4. Weight: 303 Age: 20

Born: June 21, 1987, in Starke, Fla.

Bottom line: Surprised Seminole coaches when he decided to leave school a year early despite starting only 14 of 32 games in three seasons. Had 66 tackles with 1.5 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss. Was involved in the academic cheating scandal at Florida State that saw 36 football players ruled ineligible for the Music City Bowl last Dec. 31, and failed to impress at the NFL scouting combine.

Guion on entering the draft: "I've really got family issues. When we grew up, we didn't have everything and now we struggle. That was the reason why I came out, because I had family issues that needed to be taken care of."

SIXTH ROUND

NO. 187

John Sullivan • C • Notre Dame

Height: 6-4. Weight: 301 Age: 22

Born: Aug. 8, 1985, in Mount Kisco, N.Y.

Bottom line: Sullivan started all 13 games as a junior in 2006 but missed the final two games last season because of a sprained right knee. Irish averaged 477.3 yards per game in total offense in 2005. Irish went 3-9 last season as the line gave up 58 sacks, seven more than they had surrendered in the previous two seasons combined. Has the ability to shift to guard.

Sullivan on his draft stock potentially dropping in 2007: "At this point I'm with a team that I'm incredibly happy to be with. I couldn't be happier with the result of how the draft went. Looking at draft stock, up or down, it doesn't matter to me at this point."

NO. 193

Jaymar Johnson • WR • Jackson State

Height: 6-0 Weight: 176 Age: 23

Born: July 10, 1984, in Gary, Ind.

Bottom line: Considered an explosive receiver -- he ran a 4.4 in the 40 during a workout -- he also has the ability to return punts and kicks. Johnson caught 66 passes for 1,140 yards and nine TDs and averaged 10.9 yards on 43 punt returns with two TDs in his last two seasons playing at the Division I-AA level. Had a setback in 2005, when he tore his left medial collateral ligament after starting six games. He rebounded to start all 23 games over the past two years.

Johnson on his potential role: "Actually, to be honest, I'll play any role they want me to play. I'm willing to do any and everything to stay a part of the Vikings organization. I'm going to do whatever it takes, no matter what they need me to do."
