Other prominent trades in Vikings history:
1. HERSCHELMANIA!
Oct. 12, 1989: Midseason excitement overtook reason when the Vikings picked up star RB Herschel Walker from the Cowboys. They traded away a king's ransom: RB Darrin Nelson, CB Issiac Holt, LB David Howard, LB Jesse Solomon, DE Alex Stewart and eight draft choices, including three No. 1s and three No. 2s.
2. DON'T WORRY, HE'LL BE BACK
March 7, 1967: The Vikings traded disgruntled star QB Fran Tarkenton to the Giants, but they got the foundation for their first Super Bowl team in return. They turned the draft picks they received into RB Clinton Jones, WR Bob Grim, OT Ron Yary and G Ed White.
3. SUPER BOWL, HOMEBOY? ... UH, MAYBE NOT
March 2, 2005: Randy Moss was the most dynamic player in Vikings history, but off-the-field issues and a questionable attitude caused them to put him on the market. They sent him to Oakland for LB Napoleon Harris, a first-round draft choice (No. 7 overall WR Troy Williamson) and a seventh-round pick.
4. FRAN'S BACK
Feb. 2, 1972: The Vikings had powerful teams but lacked a quality quarterback. So they brought back Fran Tarkenton from the Giants, dealing QB Norm Snead, WR Bob Grim, RB Vince Clements and first- and second-round draft picks to New York.
5. TACKLE ELIGIBLE
Aug. 24, 1993: All-Pro tackle Gary Zimmerman was upset at his contract and threatened to retire rather than play for the Vikings. As he held out of training camp, the Vikings entertained offers and took the best one: Denver offered a first- and sixth-rounder in 1994 and a second-rounder in 1995.
6. Salary Kapp problem
1970: A contract dispute caused QB Joe Kapp to be traded to the Patriots for S John Charles and a first-rounder in 1972 that turned out to be Pro Bowl MLB Jeff Siemon. Kapp had one poor season in Boston, then retired.
7. Paging a Hall of Famer
1967: Tommy Mason was a big-name running back for the Vikings, but as his career faded, he was sent with TE Hal Bedsole and a second-rounder to the Rams for TE Marlin McKeever and a first-round pick that turned out to be Hall of Fame DT Alan Page.
8. Another guy who came back
Feb. 16, 1999: With Randall Cunningham apparently set as the 1999 starting quarterback, Brad Johnson was traded to the Redskins with a fifth-rounder for Washington's No. 1 in 1999 (the Vikings took QB Daunte Culpepper) and No. 2 in 2000 (DT Fred Robbins).
9. Benchwarmer Bob pays off
Sept. 13, 1976: DE Bob Lurtsema was a household name thanks to "Benchwarmer Bob" commercials, but he's most known for being traded to Seattle, with a fourth-round choice, for WR Ahmad Rashad. Rashad made the Pro Bowl four times in seven seasons in Minnesota.
10. First trade, bad trade
1961: In their first trade, the Vikings send their first-round choice in 1962 to the Giants for QB George Shaw. The Giants traded the 1962 pick (second overall) to the Rams, who took QB Roman Gabriel. Gabriel ended up playing 16 seasons. Shaw backed up rookie sensation Fran Tarkenton.
