Peterson on Bears: `It's a sound defense, but we can run on them'

Running back Adrian Peterson talked about a variety of things during a brief interview with reporters after today's practice. Here are some highlights:

  • On the Bears' defense: "It's a sound defense, but I feel like we can run the ball on them. We just have to be patient and keep pounding the rock and be balanced offensively."
  • On the Bears' propensity to strip the ball. They have 11 fumble recoveries while cornerback Charles Tillman has seven forced fumbles: Peterson was asked if the Bears are vulnerable to big plays since they try so hard to strip the ball. He said: "They got guys out there trying to reach and get the ball out. It depends on what type of guy you're playing. It can lead to a big play. I'm sure it has happened to them this season."
  • On what he remembers about rushing for 224 yards against the Bears at Soldier Field as a rookie in 2007: "We got the `W' so that was a pretty good run. And my pants almost came down on a kickoff return. Those are the things I remember. ... It was a big win for us. It was a way for me to get out there and make a name for myself somewhat. But that was what, five years ago? It's a totally different team."
  • Asked if it was a relief to get his charges of resisting arrest in Houston dropped: "Not much. To be honest, it's bittersweet for me. I knew it was going to get dropped. Everything was false. To be honest with you, I hated that it got dropped in front of the grand jury. Everything gets covered. But it's a blessing to have it out of the way and I can go forward."
  • On his reaction to being talked about as a MVP candidate:"It feels good. I play this game to be the best. Getting talked about as a possible MVP means other people are looking at you that way. It's cool. I'm just going to continue doing what I'm doing and not worry about that."
