Randy Moss is a big fan of Percy Harvin

Posted by: under Vikings, Percy Harvin, Vikings draft Updated: September 19, 2012 - 10:18 PM

Randy Moss doesn't like talking to the press. That much is well-documented. But sometimes there's no really way around it. So with Moss' return to the Twin Cities coming Sunday for a Week 3 game between his 49ers and the Vikings, Moss visited with San Francisco reporters on Wednesday afternoon to talk about the showdown.

Asked if he was a significant influence on current Vikings' standout Percy Harvin from the time they spent together in the middle of that tumultuous 2010 season, Moss deflected any credit for Harvin's impressive emergence and instead lauded the 24-year-old's tenacity.

"Percy is a heck of a receiver," Moss said. "He's a heck of a football player -- very hard-nosed, tough. That's one thing I really noticed when I was up there, how he goes about his business. He blocks, he runs after the catch very hard. You can't really tell if he's a receiver or a running back once he touches the ball. So I'm a big fan of Percy's. I was a big fan of his when he was at the University of Florida and it's not going to stop now."

Among the other highlights of Moss' brief interview ...

On how many Moss jerseys he expects to see at Sunday's game at Mall of America Field ...

"In Minnesota? I don't know. I'm just very fortunate, I guess, to be able to back where it started at. We had some great times in Minnesota. So I look forward to just hearing the Metrodome rock. Now I'm with the away team and I look forward to a great game."

On whether he cares about the reception he'll get ...

"No, not really. I'm a 49er. I think my Minnesota Vikings days are over. I think I'm just going in as a 49er, just going in, like i said, to have success and have a good game. That's all i plan to do."

On whether he's reflecting on his days with the Vikings at all this week ...

"No. I think my focus now is just playing for the 49ers and being the best 49er that I can be. I was drafted by Coach Dennis Green, and [I'm] still appreciative to this day that he gave me an opportunity, with all the nonsense and b.s. that was said during the draft. He gave me a chance. I'm still thankful that he gave me a chance to be able to showcase my talents. So as far as the past, it's the past. And I look forwards and not backwards."

On how he'll respond if the Minnesota crowd either boos or cheers him ...

"Well one thing about praises and boos is obviously you're doing something right. I think I just hang my hat on that. You hear the applause -- of course you do. And you hear the boos. But i think the boos, being negative, puts more pressure on you to go out and hush that noise up. So i look forward to hearing both. Like i said, I'm a 49er now and hopefully we can go into the Metrodome, and come out 3-0."
