Eagles add Klecko, plan move to fullback

Last update: March 18, 2008 - 1:27 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles signed Dan Klecko on Monday and said he would be converted from defensive tackle to fullback.

The 275-pound Klecko has played defensive tackle and special teams and served as a short-yardage fullback for the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts. The Eagles will use Klecko as a full-time fullback.

"It’s going to be a lot of hard work in changing my mentality to the offensive side of the ball, but we’ll see how it goes," Klecko said.

In 47 regular-season games, Klecko has caught four passes for 20 yards and a touchdown. He also had a touchdown catch in the Colts’ 2007 AFC Championship Game victory over the Patriots.

Etc.

• Determined to end the constant double teams on star receiver Steve Smith, Carolina came to terms with Seattle free agent D.J. Hackett on a two-year, $3.5 million deal. Hackett, 26, has been plagued by injuries in his four-year career. He was limited to six games last season because of a lingering right ankle sprain, finishing with 32 catches for 384 yards and three touchdowns.

• The San Francisco 49ers signed receiver Bryant Johnson, who spent his first five NFL seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, catching 210 passes for 2,675 yards and nine touchdowns.

• The Houston Texans traded their sixth-round pick in April’s draft to Denver for center Chris Myers, who started 16 games last season.

• Tennessee Titans running back LenDale White has been cited in Denver with destruction of property, disobedience to a lawful order/interference and resistance. A Denver native, White was cited near a downtown club Friday night. No other details were released.

• The New York Jets signed three-time Pro Bowl tight end Bubba Franks to a one-year deal.
