Bengals sign Utecht to offer

Tight end Ben Utecht signed an offer sheet with the Cincinnati Bengals for a three-year contract worth nearly $9 million.
The former Gophers and Hastings High School standout is a restricted free agent from Indianapolis. The Colts can keep him by matching the Bengals' offer within a week.
The 6-6, 251-pound fourth-year pro has played 41 games with 30 starts for the Colts. He has five postseason starts, including the Colts' Super Bowl victory last year. Utecht played in 14 games last season, with 31 catches for 364 yards and one touchdown.
Because Utecht was an undrafted free agent and received the lowest tender (one year, $927,000) available, the Colts would not be compensated if he joins Cincinnati.
Etc.• Running back Derrick Ward re-signed with the Giants. The unrestricted free agent rushed for 602 yards before a broken left leg ended his season in December.
• The Lions released safety Kenoy Kennedy and signed cornerback Brian Kelly to a three-year deal.
• The 49ers landed their seventh free agent when former Cardinals receiver Bryant Johnson agreed to a one-year deal, according to Johnson's agent, Joel Segal. Johnson, a first-round draft pick in 2003, has been Arizona's No. 3 receiver the past five seasons.
• The Raiders signed free-agent defensive tackle William Joseph, a former Giant who missed all of last season because of a back injury.
