Vikings day at camp: Monday

  • Updated: August 14, 2012 - 12:13 AM
Coming up short

The Vikings' first-unit offense, which settled for two field goals Friday in San Francisco, came up empty again during a goal line drill Monday. The first team O ran three plays from the 2-yard line. The results: a Toby Gerhart fumble, recovered by Chad Greenway; a 2-yard Gerhart loss with Erin Henderson and Kevin Williams on the stop; and another 2-yard Gerhart loss with Greenway and Jasper Brinkley making that play.

You're saying there's a chance

Granted, much of his work came with the second- and third-team offenses. But receiver Devin Aromashodu had a solid practice Monday, running crisp routes and catching everything thrown his way in individual drills and team work. Aromashodu will now have to show similar bursts in preseason game action to improve his chances of making the team. Greg Childs' season-ending knee injury 10 days ago has opened the door.

Ryan D'Imperio

Position: Fullback

The skinny: D'Imperio was a seventh-round pick in 2010 and spent his rookie season plus four games in 2011 on the Vikings' practice squad. He saw action in 12 games a year ago.

Did you know? D'Imperio went to four bowl games during his college career at Rutgers, part of a 2009 senior class that produced 36 victories. He was also a Scarlet Knights captain.

Chances of making the team: At 6-3 and 240 pounds, D'Imperio can be solid as a lead blocker. He's also a good special teams player. But right now, he's behind Jerome Felton on the depth chart. And with rookie tight end Rhett Ellison also able to play some fullback, D'Imperio's window of opportunity is small.

•WR Kamar Jorden (broken hand) is still out.

•RB Adrian Peterson (knee) remains limited in practice.

•TE John Carlson (knee) is still out.

•DB Robert Blanton (hamstring) was back in action.

•OT DeMarcus Love (shoulder) did not practice.

•RB Jordan Todman (ankle) did limited work in drills.

•NT Letroy Guion (knee) is out.

•DE Jeff Charleston (head) did not practice.

•DL Everson Griffen (knee) left practice; severity of his injury is not yet known.

"He's actually real quiet. So so far, [he's a] good rookie, I guess ... I hope he's really, really awesome because that gives me more time to hit the quarterback."

-- Jared Allen, on rookie safety Harrison Smith, whose promotion to the first team came Monday
