Vikings day at camp: Sunday

  • Updated: August 12, 2012 - 10:18 PM
Mother Nature wins; Love returns

The Vikings had just reached the outdoor practice fields in full pads when they were called back inside because of a rain that wasn't going away any time soon. So what would have been a hard-hitting practice held over 2 hours, 45 minutes became essentially a second indoor walk-through that lasted a little more than an hour inside a cramped gym at Minnesota State Mankato.

With no contact and no one moving faster than a light jog, there were no highlights. But we can report that second-year offensive tackle DeMarcus Love (shoulder) was getting in some extra work as he finally returned to practice. Love, who has been sidelined throughout camp, stepped in with the second team at left tackle.

CAMP PROFILE

Pat Brown

Position: Offensive tackle.

The skinny: Showed toughness by overcoming a nagging knee injury to play a lengthy reserve role at right tackle in Friday's preseason opener. "Seeing Patrick Brown come out after missing so much time and playing as well as he did at the right tackle position, that was encouraging to see," coach Leslie Frazier said.

Did you know? Brown underwent heart surgery as a child.

Chances of making the team: The 6-5, 310-pounder enters his third season as an under-the-radar piece in the Vikings' offensive line depth. His ability to play both tackle positions and guard helps.

INJURY REPORT

•WR Kamar Jorden (broken hand) is still out.

•RB Adrian Peterson (knee) was taken off the physically-unable-to-perform list.

•TE John Carlson (knee) is still out.

•DB Robert Blanton (hamstring) was back for the light, indoor workout.

•OT DeMarcus Love (shoulder) also was back.

•RB Jordan Todman (ankle) is still out.

•CB Josh Robinson (hamstring) didn't play Friday but is practicing.

•NT Letroy Guion (knee) was hurt in Friday's game and is expected miss only this week.

•DE Jeff Charleston, who had an ankle injury earlier in camp, played Friday. But he was held out Sunday.

CAMP CHATTER

"I cannot talk about the replacement officials [laughter]. Next question."

-- Coach Leslie Frazier, who dodges few questions from reporters but did when asked about the performance of the NFL's replacement officials in Friday night's preseason opener at San Francisco.
