Vikings day at camp: Monday

How much time is left for Jenkins?

It's been hard to gauge the 2012 potential of receiver Michael Jenkins, who has had an up-and-down camp so far. One minute, Jenkins is quick on his breaks and making tough grabs and providing Christian Ponder with a security blanket in the passing game. The next minute, the 30-year-old receiver seems slow and clunky, perhaps still recovering from the surgery he had last winter to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. Greg Childs' season-ending knee injuries give Jenkins a greater opportunity to stick around. But will he show enough in the next three weeks to make it worthwhile for the Vikings to keep him?

CAMP PROFILE

McLeod Bethel-Thompson

Position: Quarterback

The skinny: Bethel-Thompson is a big kid (6-3, 230 pounds) with a strong arm whose most recent professional action came with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the UFL. Bethel-Thompson also spent the final two weeks of last season on the Dolphins' practice squad.

Did you know? Bethel-Thompson's grandfather, Wilbur, was a gold medal winner in the shot put at the 1948 Olympics.

Chances of making the team: Slim. To land the Vikings' No. 3 quarterback role, Bethel-Thompson will have to vault over 33-year-old Sage Rosenfels, who's a favorite of General Manager Rick Spielman and can provide veteran guidance to the team's young quarterbacks. But if the Vikings feel comfortable keeping three QBs age 25 or under, Bethel-Thompson's upside could be intriguing.

INJURY REPORT

•WR Greg Childs (knees) likely to be placed on IR.

•RB Adrian Peterson (knee) remains on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

•TE John Carlson (knee) is still out.

•DB Robert Blanton (hamstring) is still out.

•OT DeMarcus Love (shoulder) is still out.

•RB Jordan Todman (ankle) is still out.

•OL Geoff Schwartz (sports hernia) will have surgery Tuesday.

•OT Pat Brown (knee) was back at practice.

•DE Jeff Charleston (ankle) was back at practice.

CAMP CHATTER

"I'm lost without Adrian. Nothing to do. This is so boring."

- Head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman, looking for more work during the afternoon practice with star running back Adrian Peterson in Houston for a court appearance.
