The Vikings defense clearly pulled ahead of the offense during Wednesday's workout. Defenders were swarming their way to sacks, forced fumbles, interceptions and backfield stops on end-around plays.
Quarterback Sage Rosenfels was picked off in back-to-back 11-on-11 team sessions. Cornerback Brandon Burton, who never gained the trust of the coaching staff as a rookie a year ago, went up and over receiver Kamar Jorden to intercept a deep ball by Rosenfels. In the next team session, Rosenfels was late on a throw to Kerry Taylor in the left flat. Cornerback Reggie Jones stepped in front of the ball and took it the other way.
Fans get glimpse of what might beThe afternoon didn't belong entirely to the defense. The play of the day -- at least based on fan response -- came during a 7-on-7 drill.
Unlike the Randy Moss era, the Vikings rarely throw the ball deep at training camp. But on this particular play, receiver Jerome Simpson raced behind the safeties and pulled in a nicely thrown pass from Christian Ponder. The ball traveled 45 to 50 yards in the air.
Position: Center
The skinny: Saulsberry is the only player in Mississippi State history to start every game (49) of his career. He started at right tackle as a freshman, left guard as a sophomore and split time at all three interior positions as a junior and senior.
Chances of making the team: The undrafted rookie is explosive off the line, has quick feet and has shown more strength than he was given credit for entering the draft. His promise and position flexibility could land a spot on the practice squad.
•TE John Carlson (knee) is expected to be sidelined a week or two.
•RB Adrian Peterson (knee) remains on the physically-unable-to-perform list.
•CB Josh Robinson (hamstring) was in full pads but did not practice.
•DB Robert Blanton (hamstring) did not practice; day-to-day.
•OT DeMarcus Love (shoulder) is expected to be out a week or two.
CAMP CHATTER"I always try to get the sack record. Every year, I try to dominate the league. You never know when it's going to be your last year."
