Vikings day at camp

So far, so good for Walsh

It wasn't quite the final seconds of a close game at Lambeau Field, but rookie kicker Blair Walsh opened Monday's practice by going 8-for-8 on short field goals. No wild hooks, no shanks, no meltdowns.

Hey, it's a start for the guy who missed 14 of 35 kicks at Georgia a year ago.

Gotta catch that one, rook

On a positive note, rookie fourth-round draft pick Greg Childs ran a beautiful out-and-up route. The move caused second-string nickel back Marcus Sherels to get his feet tangled up, leaving Childs to run free down the right sideline.

What happened next wasn't so positive. Childs dropped the perfectly thrown ball from No. 3 quarterback Sage Rosenfels. But we'll throw the rook a bone though and mention that he also made a nice catch on a well-run crossing route.

Austin Pasztor

Position: Guard

The skinny: Matt Kalil wasn't the only fourth overall draft pick of 2012. Pasztor, a 6-7, 308-pounder from Virginia, was drafted fourth overall by Edmonton in the Canadian Football League. He was second-team All-America in 2011.

Chances of making the team: At best, he's a candidate for the practice squad.

• RB Adrian Peterson (knee) is on the physically-unable-to-perform list. He also has been cleared to continue his rehab after being rushed to the hospital following an allergic reaction to seafood.

• WR Stephen Burton (toe) was removed from the non-football-injury list but must wait two more practices before participating in contact drills, per the new collective bargaining agreement.

• CB Josh Robinson (hamstring) has not practiced since Friday and is day to day.

• CB Nick Taylor (shoulder) was waived/injured.

• OT DeMarcus Love (shoulder) didn't practice and is a week or two from returning to the field.

"Hey, Ponder! You can't be throwing picks this early in the year."

-- A seventh-grader and enterprising young boy who also spent part of practice asking sportswriters if they wanted to trade their jobs for seventh grade. Check back in a couple of more steamy days, son.
