All he does is score

Adrian Peterson's action Saturday had him working him out of the backfield. By himself. With head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman calling specific plays, delivering handoffs and throwing Peterson short passes. Peterson worked more on cutting and getting back into the flow of football-specific movements. And with no defense, he kept reaching the end zone and heading right back to the backfield for more. Hey, it's progress for Peterson, who continues to work on his leg strength but is now also focusing on shaking the rust off his running back moves.

Shaky day

Jerome Simpson caused the biggest crowd gasp when he went down during full team work, clutching his left knee. He was fine, aside from a slight limp. And soon after he received a big round of applause from the crowd. But those cheers were for the 10 push-ups he diligently pumped out as punishment for dropping a pass on a routine out route. Simpson's speed still has been on display early in Mankato. But he'll need to show greater consistency and eliminate those unforced errors if he is to maximize his potential.

CAMP PROFILE

Zack Bowman

Position: Cornerback

The skinny: Signed as a free agent in March, Bowman is part of a cluttered depth chart at cornerback.

Did you know? In 2009, his second season with Chicago, he had a team-best six interceptions. ... Bowman's first career interception came in 2008 against the Vikings when he picked off a Gus Frerotte pass.

Chances of making the team: Bowman's special teams ability is not going unnoticed. He's part of the first unit on kickoff return and kickoff coverage. That's his key to sticking around.

INJURY REPORT

Peterson (knee) remains on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list.

TE Mickey Shuler (heel) was taken off the non-football-injury (NFI) list and returned to practice.

WR Stephen Burton (toe) remains on NFI list.

CB Josh Robinson (hamstring) did not practice, is day-to-day

CB Nick Taylor (shoulder) is out indefinitely, awaiting tests.

CAMP CHATTER

"My window's been closing for the last five years. Honestly. It's kind of hard to play 16 games, every snap. We have to see where I'm at."

Antoine Winfield, 35-year old cornerback, acknowledging his 2012 workload might be reduced.
