Panthers cut Carr, come to terms with Muhammad

Last update: February 27, 2008 - 8:43 PM

Carolina released quarterback David Carr on Wednesday and came to terms with receiver Muhsin Muhammad on a two-year contract.

Carr was let go a year after he signed a $6 million, two-year deal with the Panthers following a five-year stint as a starter in Houston. But Carr struggled so badly when he took over for the injured Jake Delhomme last season that he was eventually demoted to third-string.

Titans re-sign Gage

Tennessee Titans receiver Justin Gage agreed to a multiyear contract to remain with the team. Gage led the team with 750 receiving yards and tied Roydell Williams for most receptions with 55.

Favre expected back

New Packers president Mark Murphy said he believes quarterback Brett Favre will return for another season.

"My guess is that he's going to come back," Murphy said. "The team has gotten better around him and is in a position to really do great things next year."

Etc.

• The Bills cut running back Anthony Thomas.

• The Ravens terminated the contract of running back Mike Anderson.

• The Browns terminated the contract of defensive lineman Orpheus Roye.

• Myron Cope, the voice of the Steelers for 35 years, died at age 79.

• Kansas City released former Pro Bowl cornerback Ty Law and linebacker Kendrell Bell.

• The Colts released linebacker Rob Morris and defensive tackle Anthony McFarland.

• The Buccaneers released veteran defensive ends Kevin Carter and Greg Spires.

• Patriots running back Kevin Faulk was issued a misdemeanor summons last Friday in Lafayette, La., for possession of marijuana.

A knee-irked reaction - February 27, 2008
A knee-irked reaction - Have we fantasy geeks evolved so dramatically as a species in two years that we can only muster a collective shrug at Maurice Jones-Drew's kneel-down Sunday at the 1-yard-line? In 2007, when Brian Westbrook pulled the same trick, the fantasy football community nearly melted the Internet's tubing with sob stories and "How could he do that to us?" rants. But after Sunday, when MJD helped the Jaguars control the clock in the final minute and get the victory by taking a knee a foot in front of the goal line, there were millions of geek heads nodding in approval. "Yeah, good idea. Smart move. It's OK if it cost me six fantasy points." Have we fantasy freaks lost our freakiness? Have the geeks gone mild? More
