Exonerated on rape charge, Brian Banks could work out for Vikings

Looking for potential help at linebacker, the Vikings may get to see what Brian Banks has to offer later this week.

That would continue a whirlwind for Banks, who's attempting to make a return to football after spending more than five years in prison on an errant rape conviction. Banks was exonerated on that charge just last month when the alleged victim recanted her original story.

According to the Associated Press, Banks had a workout today with the Chiefs and will then head to Seattle to participate in the Seahawks’ mini-camp.  This afternoon, Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier said there was also a “good chance” Banks would also be coming to Winter Park for a workout, perhaps on Friday.

Banks last played organized football in 2002, then a 17-year-old high school star in California with a scholarship offer to USC. But his football dreams were dashed by the rape charge, which, according to reports, his attorneys advised him to plead no contest to. Now free, Banks is giving football another go, making his quest one of the more intriguing offseason storylines percolating right now.

The story and videos with this ABC News report provide a compelling glimpse into Banks' saga.

"It's more than I can describe, the things that I've been through and the things that I've endured," he said. "I may not ever get the answers as to why I was supposed to go through what I went through. But I know that I'm here today and I remain unbroken."
