Officials prepping to build the new Vikings stadium in downtown Minneapolis have selected a group that will help design the facility.

The "Stadium Implementation Committee" will be tasked with making "recommendations on the design plans submitted for the stadium, and stadium infrastructure, and related improvements." They are distinct from the new stadium authority, which will have considerably more power.

Documents released ahead of Thursday's City Council Committee of the Whole meeting show that the Implementation Committee will be co-chaired by David Wilson, a director at Accenture, and Tom Fisher, dean of the University of Minnesota School of Design. The picks are subject to Council approval.

The committee will also consist of five elected officials, all of whom supported the stadium: Mayor RT Rybak, Council President Barbara Johnson, Council Members Kevin Reich, Diane Hofstede and Meg Tuthill.

Rybak spokesman John Stiles said the group listed in the documents likely represents only a portion of the final committee, which he expects to be made up of more than 15 people.

The city will also appoint another group to oversee design and related issues for the Target Center renovations. That implementation committee will consist of Council Members Don Samuels, Lisa Goodman, John Quincy and Sandy Colvin Roy.
