Vikings schedule: 4 of 6 final games against Packers, Bears

The Vikings' 2012 regular season schedule was released Tuesday evening, with the team slated to open and close the season at Mall of America Field. As the Vikings attempt to bounce back from last year's 3-13 disaster, they will play 13 games that begin at noon. And they won't have a single Monday night contest. Their only prime-time game will be a Thursday nighter Oct. 25 at home against Tampa Bay to be aired on the NFL Network. For better or worse, the Vikings will also play division rivals Green Bay and Chicago twice each during the final six weeks of the season. Here's your quick look at what's ahead ...

Sunday, Sept. 9, noon: vs. Jacksonville

The season begins with an early duel between second-year quarterbacks Christian Ponder and Blaine Gabbert.

Sunday, Sept. 16, noon: at Indianapolis

Welcome to Lucas Oil Stadium, Andrew Luck. The lauded rookie quarterback's home debut will come vs. a defense feeble against the pass in 2011.

Sunday, Sept. 23, noon: vs. San Francisco

Randy Moss returns to the Metrodome for the first time as a regular-season visitor --assuming he hasn't agitated Jim Harbaugh too much by Week 3.

Sunday, Sept. 30, noon: at Detroit

Matthew Stafford of the Lions posted QB ratings of 108.8 and 115.2 in two 2011 games against the Vikings.

Sunday, Oct. 7, noon:

vs. Tennessee

Will TV blackout come into play by then? NFL graybeards Steve Hutchinson (now a Titan) and Kevin Williams grapple in the trenches.

Sunday, Oct. 14, 3:15 p.m.: at Washington

Warning to Redskins rookie QB Robert Griffin III: Two of Leslie Frazier's six victories as Vikings coach have been in the nation's capital.

Sunday, Oct. 21, noon: vs. Arizona

The Vikings and Larry Fitzgerald Jr.'s team meet for the sixth time in the past seven seasons.

Thursday, Oct. 25, 7:20 p.m.: vs. Tampa Bay

Lone non-Sunday game. The Vikings' last win over the Bucs came on Sept. 30, 2001 -- with Cris Carter scoring in an NFC Central clash.

Sunday, Nov. 4, 3:15 p.m.: at Seattle

Which Seahawks QB will Jared Allen try to calf rope: former teammate Tarvaris Jackson or former Packer Matt Flynn?

Sunday, Nov. 11, noon: vs. Detroit

The Vikings begin a stretch that will have them playing five of their final seven games against division foes.

Sunday, Nov. 18: bye

Last possible bye week, after 10 games. Time for early Thanksgiving?

Sunday, Nov. 25, noon: at Chicago

No Turkey Day game for the Vikings, who have lost on 10 of their past 11 trips into Soldier Field, where nemesis Brian Urlacher is always waiting.

Sunday, Dec. 2, noon:

at Green Bay

Last year's 45-7 loss at Lambeau might have been the most embarrassing of the season, although the Saints game was a debacle as well.

Sunday, Dec. 9, noon: vs.Chicago

The teams' second meeting in 15 days. Will a refurbished secondary be able to defuse the Jay Cutler-Brandon Marshall fireworks show?

Sunday, Dec. 16, noon: at St. Louis

A possible battle for 2013 draft position? With only 15 victories the past five seasons, the Rams hope to be revived by new coach Jeff Fisher.

Sunday, Dec. 23, noon: at Houston

Last chance to shop for Christmas. The Texans, led by Arian Foster and Andre Johnson, are the new top dogs in the AFC South.

Sunday, Dec. 30, noon: vs. Green Bay

Will MVP Aaron Rodgers be resting for the playoffs? He was 47-for-60 for 585 yards and seven TDs against the Vikings last fall.
