Pro Bowl thank-yous to cost Peterson

Last update: December 20, 2007 - 9:09 PM

Adrian Peterson has attempted to spread the credit around to other members of the Vikings offense when discussing his success this season. On Thursday, the rookie running back proved these words aren't just lip service.

Peterson said he plans to take upward of a dozen offensive teammates with him to the Pro Bowl in Honolulu this February. Peterson, who was named to the NFC team this week, already will be joined by three members of the Vikings offense on the Pro Bowl squad: center Matt Birk, left guard Steve Hutchinson and fullback Tony Richardson.

"I have got to show my appreciation," Peterson said.

Peterson also plans to bring his family to Hawaii, meaning he's sure to leave with a big bill. Although Birk, Hutchinson and Richardson already have invitations to the game, that doesn't mean the rookie won't be picking up a few tabs for them as well.

"A couple of guys already gave me a heads up to have my card ready, so I guess it is just part of it," Peterson said. "But I wouldn't mind doing anything for those guys because without [them] and the other guys, I wouldn't be going to the Pro Bowl."

Peterson likely will be able to cover these costs with the rookie of the year honors that are sure to come his way. His contract calls for him to receive a $250,000 bonus for earning that recognition.

Edwards in Arizona

Defensive end Ray Edwards, who has served two games of a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's steroid policy, is working out at the Athletes' Performance Institute (API) in Tempe, Ariz.

Under league rules, Edwards can't participate in team activities, work out at Winter Park or have contact with any team official except to arrange off-site medical treatment.

"[API] is where he goes in the offseason," Vikings coach Brad Childress said. "The neat thing about that is you are there all day long. It's one stop [shopping]. ... They cook the food for you, they do the cardio, they do the weightlifting. You pay a pretty good number, but they are making a pretty good number. It's pretty much worth it."

Edwards, who is tied with fellow end Kenechi Udeze for the team lead with five sacks, will have his suspension expire after the Vikings' regular-season finale on Dec. 30 at Denver.

Etc.

• Cornerback Antoine Winfield (pectoral strain), receiver Sidney Rice (ankle sprain) and linebacker Dontarrious Thomas (groin) missed a second consecutive day of practice Thursday. Safety Tank Williams (knee) was again limited. For Washington, safeties LaRon Landry (quadriceps) and Pierson Prioleau (hamstring), center Mike Pucillo (back) and tight end Todd Yoder (knee) did not participate.

• Receiver Troy Williamson said his older brother, Carlton, who has been in and out of a coma for several weeks after being in an automobile accident in September, is alert now and doing much better.

• The Vikings announced Sunday night's game is a sellout and will be televised locally on NBC affiliate KARE (Ch. 11). The team needed no corporate assistance to sell the remaining seats. There are tickets still available, though, because the Redskins returned about 400 on Thursday. Returns by the opposing team do not count when it comes to the NFL's blackout policy.
