Increased tempo

The pace of practice picked up Wednesday, as the Vikings wore shoulder pads for the first time since training camp opened on Monday. Among the highlights was a nice leaping catch by rookie tight end Allen Reisner on a 20-yard pass from Christian Ponder. Percy Harvin also spent the practice going at full speed and at one point ran into the padding that is built around the lift on which the Vikings film their practices. He bounced right up.

Making progress

The Vikings planned to hold Cedric Griffin out of 7-on-7 and team drills at the start of camp while he recovered from his second torn anterior cruciate ligament in two years. But that didn't last long: Griffin got reps with the first team at right cornerback. Griffin tore his right ACL in October against the New York Jets, after tearing his left ACL in the NFC Championship Game during the 2009 season.

QB update

After being forced to watch practice for three days, Donovan McNabb is expected to be able to participate in today's session. That means Joe Webb will be bumped to No. 2, Ponder to No. 3 and Rhett Bomar to fourth string. Ponder had easily his best day of camp on Wednesday and it appears he's quickly getting comfortable with elements of this offense. Webb, meanwhile, threw his third interception in two days when Heath Farwell picked off a pass that was deflected by receiver Greg Camarillo. Two of those interceptions have been on balls tipped by receivers.

Quote of the day

"Get up on my mustache."

Fiery defensive coordinator Fred Pagac evidently giving instructions about the type of aggressive nature he expects during the afternoon walk-through.

Injury report

RG Anthony Herrera (knee) remains on the physically unable to perform list as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

LB Kenny Onatolu is day-to-day because of a stress fracture in his left foot. He is wearing a walking boot.

Schedule

The Vikings practice schedule for Thursday has been changed to the following:

9-10 a.m. --Walkthrough

3- 5:30 p.m. -- Full pads
