Rookie quarterback Christian Ponder can't have any communication with Vikings coaches during the lockout, but that doesn't mean he isn't trying to get familiar with his new teammates.

In an interview with ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd on Friday, Ponder said he's heading to Florida next week and has talked to a number of teammates about getting together for workouts. Players from other teams already have held informal workouts during the lockout but the Vikings have not done so in a group setting yet.

Ponder said the Vikings are "behind the 8-ball" in that regard but he acknowledged he's talked to wide receiver Percy Harvin and others about getting together as soon as possible in Tampa.

Ponder received part of Bill Musgrave's playbook when he visited Winter Park the day after he was drafted. The lockout went back into effect later that day but Ponder was able to leave with a portion of the playbook. He can share that information with his teammates while also getting some on-the-field work with them.
