week 11 recap
NOW STARTING AT QUARTERBACK ... AH, WHO KNOWS?
Ten teams, including the Vikings, used a different starting quarterback Sunday than they did the week before. Only three of those teams -- the Vikings (Tarvaris Jackson), Jaguars (David Garrard) and Texans (Matt Schaub) -- won. The Falcons (Byron Leftwich), 49ers (Trent Dilfer), Bears (Rex Grossman), Raiders (Daunte Culpepper), Chiefs (Brodie Croyle), Ravens (Kyle Boller) and Dolphins (John Beck) lost. Week 12 could bring even more QB changes throughout the league. The Eagles' Donovan McNabb (ankle) could be replaced by A.J. Feeley at New England. The Falcons could go back to Joey Harrington. And the 49ers will go back to Alex Smith when he's healthy.
THE DOLPHINS' PIECE OF HISTORY
Overshadowed by the Patriots' pursuit of perfection is the Dolphins' stumble toward pure imperfection. Miami is off to an 0-10 start and faces a trip to Pittsburgh to play the angry Steelers on Sunday, so it's officially time to start lumping them alongside some of the worst teams in NFL history.
HITTING BOTTOM
Our bottom five, in reverse order, from the past 31 years:
5 1991 Colts: Started 0-10 en route to 1-15.
4 2000 Chargers: Remember that 0-11 start, the 1-15 finish, the depths of the Ryan Leaf fiasco?
3 1990 Patriots: Finished 1-15 and were outscored by 265 points. But they did beat the Colts.
2 1980 Saints: The lovable "Aints." The best shot at the only 0-16 season ended with the only victory of the season in Week 15.
1 1976 Buccaneers: The standard by which all horrible teams are compared. The NFL's last winless team at 0-14.
PACKERS HAVE NO FEAR OF ROAD
Mike McCarthy, below, has a 17-9 record as Packers head coach. Just imagine what his record would be if Green Bay had used its home-field advantage a little better the past two seasons. The Packers are 9-3 on the road under McCarthy but only 8-6 at home. They are 4-0 on the road within the NFC North but only 3-2 against their division opponents at home. The Packers have won six consecutive road games overall heading into Thursday's game at Detroit. The Packers are 4-0 on the road this season. The only other teams with undefeated road records are New England (6-0) and Dallas (5-0). The only team without a victory on the road is Miami (0-5), which hasn't won anywhere, including London.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"We've got one win in a row, so we're improving." -- Jets return man Leon Washington following his team's 19-16 overtime upset of visiting Pittsburgh.
