Carolina Panthers coach John Fox has the ability to make NFL history this week. And all he has to do is pick Vinny Testaverde over David Carr as his starting quarterback against the Packers at Lambeau Field.
According to the NFL, if Testaverde (44 years, 5 days old on Sunday) and Brett Favre (38 years, 39 days) start, they will be the oldest tandem of starting quarterbacks (82 years, 44 days) in the same game in NFL history.
It's a record that's sure to stand until 2042 when a 75-year-old Jeff George finally finds a general manager desperate enough to bring him back.
OAK +5 ½ at MN: Vikings by 7. In the case of a 0-0 tie, a 40-yard dash between Daunte Culpepper and Ryan Cook will determine the winner.
SD +3 at JAC: Jaguars by 7. Norv Turner beat the Colts. He's in first place. And fans still want him fired. Norv has offered to buy them season tickets to the Vikings, Wolves, Twins, Gophers ...
KC +14 ½ at IND: Colts by 20. Herm Edwards says starting Brodie Croyle at Indy isn't a sign of surrender. But Croyle will be dressed in a white flag, screaming "Uncle!" with both arms raised.
CLE -3 at BAL: Ravens by 3. With Steve McNair having more bum body parts than touchdown passes, the Kyle Boller Era in Baltimore begins for the 987th time.
PIT -9 at NYJ: Steelers by 6. The Steelers lead the league in total defense, scoring defense and offseason interceptions of Vikings assistants.
TB -3 at ATL: Buccaneers by 6. Joey Harrington is stunned he might lose his starting job. You'd think he'd be used to it by now.
MIA +10 at PHI: Eagles by 14. Ricky Williams is back. The line just went down by three joints ... I mean, points.
NE -15 ½ at BUF: Patriots by 20. With the Pats at 9-0, Tom Brady is trying to become the first QB to score a perfect 10 on and off the field.
WAS +10 ½ at DAL: Cowboys by 14. If they win their next two, the Cowboys would be a franchise-record 10-1 and have a good shot at getting creamed in the Super Bowl.
NO -1 at HOU: Saints by 3. Saints fullback Mike Karney said the team is "back to being humble." What he meant to say was the team is "back to helping sports writers go 3-10-1 against the spread."
CAR +10 at GB: Packers by 14. Favre vs. Testaverde prompts the formation of Against Really Old Dudes Getting Eternal Rights to Starting. Or A. RODGERS, for short.
NYG -3 at DET: Giants by 7. Give me the Lions. No, the Giants. No, the Lions. Ah, just put me down for one, bet the other and call me a moron on Monday.
STL -2 ½ at SF: Rams by 6. The Dec. 9 49ers-Vikings game has been moved to the Big Ten Network.
CHI +5 ½ at SEA: Seahawks by 7. Only 31 days until Rex Grossman vs. Tarvaris Jackson. Unless Rex is benched again or T-Jack doesn't hurt his feet, ankles, knees, back, groin, shoulders, arms, hands and/or head.
TEN +2 at DEN: Broncos by 3. The Titans are 6-3 as Pacman's Courthouse Tour '07 moves on to Georgia.
UPSET SPECIAL
ARI +3 at CIN: Cardinals by 3. Wonderlic question No. 23: Which of the following does not belong? T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, Chad Johnson, M. Vikings.
Last week: Dolphins over Bills. Result: Bills 13, Dolphins 10. Record: 4-6.
