The Vikings cornerback has admitted to a heated confrontation with a neighbor but denies brandishing a gun.

Vikings cornerback Chris Cook has a March 21 preliminary hearing on a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a firearm in his hometown of Lynchburg, Va.

Cook was arrested and charged Saturday evening after a verbal altercation with a neighbor. Cook admitted he had a heated confrontation with the man but denied brandishing a gun.

Lynchburg Police Capt. Ryan Zuidema said Cook was charged after the arrest in accordance with Virginia law.

"Virginia works a little bit different than a lot of states in that private citizens in Virginia can go in front of a magistrate and actually swear out a criminal warrant against another citizen, and in essence that's what happened in this situation," Zuidema said. "Basically the information that we know is there was some type of verbal argument between Mr. Cook and this other gentleman and that gentleman went in front of a magistrate here and swore out an arrest warrant against Mr. Cook, which our officers then served."

A clerk at the Lynchburg General District Court said Cook has an arraignment hearing March 21. Zuidema said in Virginia individuals who receive an arrest warrant also are charged at the same time. Cook was released on recognizance.

"Some states you're arrested basically on suspicion of something and then a D.A. will determine if they're actually going to formally charge them," he said. "In Virginia, when you're arrested you're actually charged. He has been charged with brandishing a firearm. Obviously the Commonwealth attorney will still review the case. But he will have a court date that he'll go to either way and they'll make a determination."

Vikings lay out refund policy

Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf sent a letter to season-ticket holders this past weekend addressing the lockout and the team's refund policy in the event games are canceled in 2011 because of the work stoppage.

The team will give full refunds for any preseason or regular-season games that are canceled. Fans can either take the refund or apply that money toward future games.

The Wilfs also wrote that 1 percent simple interest will be paid on refunds. "Interest will be calculated for the period beginning on the date that a game is canceled through the date that the refund is processed," the letter states. "You will be entitled to interest only if you have paid for your season tickets in full by the final season ticket payment deadline of May 23, 2011."
