GREEN BAY, WIS. The Packers don't need to watch film of Adrian Peterson's record-breaking performance to understand what's possible in his first game at Lambeau Field. After all, Peterson is the only person with a 100-yard rushing performance against the Packers this season.
In a 23-16 loss to the Packers on Sept. 30, Peterson had 112 yards on 12 carries (9.3) and might have inflicted more damage if given the opportunity. After rushing for 108 yards on 10 carries in the first half, Peterson had only two more carries as coach Brad Childress limited the rookie's playing time.
Asked this week if the Packers wondered if Peterson might have gone for 200 yards on them that day, defensive end Aaron Kampman smiled and shook his head.
"No, not really," he said. "I'm just glad he didn't."
Packers defenders weren't quite cocky this week, but they certainly wanted it known that their eighth-ranked rushing defense (93.8 yards per game) isn't intimidated by Peterson.
"It's a personal challenge to all of us," defensive tackle Ryan Pickett said. "You definitely don't want a team to run the ball all over you. That's pretty much the most embarrassing thing that can happen to a team. We definitely won't stand for that."
The week after Baltimore's Jamal Lewis ran for 295 yards vs. Cleveland in 2003, he went to San Diego and ran for 132 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries (5.7 per carry). Packers defensive tackle Corey Williams wouldn't bite when asked to predict how many yards Peterson will get today.
"But I do know one thing," Williams said. "It won't be anything like he had last week."
