Concussion clouds plan for the QBs

Even though the Vikings rallied for a 35-17 victory over San Diego on Sunday with Brooks Bollinger at quarterback, coach Brad Childress made it clear Tarvaris Jackson remains his starter. "I want to see Tarvaris continue to develop," Childress said.

First, Jackson must stay healthy.

Jackson has missed three games this season because of either a groin strain or a broken finger and was forced from Sunday's game late in the second quarter after suffering a concussion. "I feel good now, like it never happened," said Jackson, who estimated he was knocked unconscious for 2 minutes.

Jackson's status for next Sunday's game at Green Bay is unclear, but he said he had a concussion before and missed only a couple days in that case. "I should be back," he said.

Jackson completed six of 12 passes for 63 yards before he was injured. He was hurt while scrambling for a 10-yard gain on first down from his own 36-yard line. Chargers safety Eric Weddle got Jackson by the leg, flipping him into the air and linebacker Stephen Cooper came in and hit the quarterback from behind as he hit the turf.

Jackson was on the field for several minutes as trainers tended to him before getting up and leaving the field on a cart. He returned to the sideline for the second half.

"I didn't quite get a full look at the hit, but you have to learn to slide," Childress said "That slide, we take it all the way to the nth degree. When you give yourself up, you give yourself up."

For the second consecutive week, Bollinger was forced into action because of an injury. Bollinger completed seven of 10 passes for 95 yards and connected with rookie Sidney Rice on a 40-yard touchdown pass that gave the Vikings a 21-14 third-quarter lead.

"I would like to say I am always prepared to go in, and I think I am, but there are some weeks where somebody is a little nicked up, you might have a heightened level of readiness," Bollinger said.

"But you still don't know when it's going to be, how it's going to be or what the situation is going to be. So it is still a matter of just going in there and executing plays. ... I just tried to give us a chance to win."
