Week 2 recap

Last update: September 17, 2007 - 11:55 PM

Biggest disappointment: When Washington stopped Philadelphia short in Monday night's final minute, the Eagles became the 10th 0-2 team. None of those teams is more disappointing than the New Orleans Saints. Specifically, the Saints' offense. New Orleans has been outscored 72-24. Quarterback Drew Brees has one touchdown pass, or five fewer than the Browns' Derek Anderson! Of course, things might be looking up in the bayou. After getting blown out by 31 points in Week 1 against the Colts, the Saints used the 10 days between games to lose by only 17 in Tampa.

Get your flashbulbs ready: Here's some billboard material if the Vikings still need to sell tickets for that Sept. 30 home game against the Packers. It's possible that Packers quarterback Brett Favre could set NFL career records for touchdown passes and interceptions in that game. With only this week's home game against San Diego standing between Favre and the Vikings, Favre needs four touchdown passes to break Dan Marino's record of 420 and three more interceptions to break George Blanda's record of 277.

Rex, Rex, Rex: Dear Rex Grossman, QB, Chicago Bears: On behalf of all of us who have defended you and Bears coach Lovie Smith for sticking with you, can you please, please PLEASE start showing some sort of progress? Any at all would be nice. ... Even Rex seems frustrated. "Thank God I've got a great defense to bail me out," Grossman said after another clunker in a Bears' 20-10 victory over the Chiefs.

Psst, Joey: Do ya think Bucs receiver Joey Galloway even knows he's 35 years old, heading for 36 on Nov. 20? Apparently not during Sunday's 31-14 victory over the Saints. Galloway caught four passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns, including a 69-yarder.

Spaeth for Rookie of the Year? Who says NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year is limited to the Vikings' Adrian Peterson and Detroit's Calvin Johnson? Peterson has one touchdown in two games. Johnson has two touchdowns. And then there's former Gophers tight end Matt Spaeth, who has two touchdowns in three catches for the Steelers. Not bad for a third-round draft pick.

Looking ahead: If the Lions win at Philadelphia, it would be their first 3-0 start since 1980. Wow.
