Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs will be under court supervision for a year and must pay $485 in fines for leaving the scene of an accident.

Briggs did not immediately call police after crashing his Lamborghini and abandoning it alongside a Chicago expressway on Aug. 27.

Briggs pleaded guilty Thursday to leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident after his car careered into a light pole and a concrete bridge support. Briggs also was ordered to perform 15 days of community service.

Green Bay

Will Blackmon, the Packers' second-year cornerback, was placed on injured reserve after breaking his right foot in practice. Coach Mike McCarthy revealed the injury following Thursday's practice.

Blackmon, who broke the same foot during a May 2006 minicamp, was covering a receiver during the final 11-on-11 team period of Wednesday's practice when they got their feet tangled up.

Blackmon came back from a foot injury after missing the first five games of last season, only to suffer a broken rib in his fourth game on the active roster and winding up on IR.

Detroit

The Lions placed running back Brian Calhoun on injured reserve because of a knee injury and re-signed running back Aveion Cason.

Etc.

• Quarterback Tim Couch and defensive end Kenard Lang were suspended by the NFL for six games for violating the league's steroids policy. Neither player is on an NFL roster, but they have not filed retirement papers.

• The separated shoulder of 49ers QB Alex Smith will not need surgery during or even after the season, surgeon James Andrews said.
