Free-agent defensive tackle Ian Scott left Winter Park Friday afternoon, concluding his visit with the Vikings without signing a contract. He returned home with an undisclosed offer but is expected to visit the Atlanta Falcons or Kansas City Chiefs as early as Monday.
The Vikings targeted the 6-3, 302-pound Scott as a No. 3 tackle who would rotate with Pro Bowlers Kevin Williams and Pat Williams. He would replace free agent Ross Kolodziej, who provided veteran depth last season.
Scott, 25, has 33 starts in four seasons, all with the Chicago Bears. The Bears aren't believed to be interested in re-signing him. He visited the Denver Broncos before his stop in Minnesota.
Known more for his ability to clog a gap, he has 96 tackles and only two sacks in 49 games.
Besides youth and starting experience, Scott also is attractive to the Vikings because he grew up in the NFL in the same Tampa-2 defensive scheme used by the Vikings.
Scott was the only free agent to visit Winter Park on Friday. The team's biggest need is still receiver, although the crop of available free agents is thin. Among the free-agent receivers still looking for work are Bobby Engram, Keenan McCardell and Eric Moulds -- three guys with a combined 37 years of experience, 2,097 catches, 140 touchdown receptions and, unfortunately for them, a combined age of 104.
Engram, 34, has 504 career catches and 29 touchdowns; McCardell, 37, has 861 catches and 62 touchdowns; and Moulds, 33, has 732 catches and 49 touchdowns.
"I thought there would be a lot more interest in [Moulds]," said Moulds' agent, Harrison Henderson. "I can't understand why teams like Minnesota that need receivers aren't calling. Eric still has some football left in him."
