Vikings: QB Henson's back; Bears tackle Scott to come for a visit

Last update: March 15, 2007 - 12:28 PM

The Vikings agreed to terms Wednesday with quarterback Drew Henson and made plans for defensive tackle Ian Scott to visit Winter Park.

Scott, who started seven games last season for Chicago, is scheduled to arrive in the Twin Cities tonight and will meet with team officials Friday. He visited Denver on Tuesday.

Scott played for Vikings defensive line coach Karl Dunbar when the two were with the Bears in 2004. The Bears' fourth-round draft pick in 2003, Scott has recorded 96 tackles in four seasons.

Henson, meanwhile, spent six weeks on the Vikings' practice squad last season. He agreed to a one-year contract for the veteran's minimum, the NFL reported on its website. Henson spent 2004-05 in Dallas.

Out in force

Vikings coach Brad Childress and vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman were among a contingent of about 100 NFL coaches and scouts who attended workouts at Louisiana State University.

The event was headlined by quarterback JaMarcus Russell. The Tigers, however, have three players who could be selected in the first round of the April 28-29 draft: Russell (projected as the No. 1 overall pick), safety LaRon Landry and receiver Dwayne Bowe.

Childress, a former quarterbacks coach, figured to spend much of his time scouting Russell in the event Oakland does not take him with the first pick of the draft. The Vikings have the No. 7 pick in the first round.

Childress also attended Notre Dame's Pro Day, which featured quarterback Brady Quinn. The odds remain, however, that the Vikings will enter training camp with Tarvaris Jackson and Brooks Bollinger competing for the starting job.

Russell, meanwhile, measured 6-5 3/8 and weighed in at 256 pounds. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.83 seconds. Landry did not run, while Bowe recorded a 4.49 and a 4.40 in his two attempts.

Etc.

• Receiver Troy Williamson spent several days last week having his eyes and body movements tested by coordination specialists at the Nike corporate headquarters in Beaverton, Ore., agent David Canter said. Canter said Williamson was assigned exercises to help improve his hand-eye coordination.

• Clemson defensive end Gaines Adams is among the group of draft-eligible players who will visit Winter Park, according to scout.com. As of last month, the Vikings were planning to schedule all of their visits on the same day.
