Confidence boost

Troy Williamson, who had a team-leading three receptions in the Vikings' 13-10 preseason loss Friday to St. Louis, picked up where he left off when the team returned to the practice field Sunday afternoon. During a team segment, Tarvaris Jackson launched a ball deep down the right sideline that Williamson lunged for and pulled into his body, all while being covered by starting cornerback Cedric Griffin. The difficult catch drew a round of applause from the crowd watching practice.

Mixing it up

Running back Mewelde Moore and rookie defensive end Brian Robison got into a tussle as the Vikings worked on their two-minute drill. Most eyes were focused on quarterback Brooks Bollinger scrambling toward the right sideline, when Moore and Robison started jostling on the other side of the field. As the play ended, Moore was on the ground and Robison appeared to be on top of him, in what turned into a pileup of players trying to restore peace. Moore yelled at Robison as the two were separated. Robison then went to the sideline and Moore trotted back on the field. The two appeared to smooth things over after practice and walked off the field and toward the locker room together.

QUARTERBACK QUANDARY: Snippets from the quarterback transition

Jackson received all the reps with the first team Friday night, and coach Brad Childress said afterward there was a chance that Bollinger could get the start Friday against the Jets. On Sunday, though, it sounded as if the only sure bet is that Bollinger can expect to get some work with the first unit. The plan is for the first team to play the opening half. "Whether he starts or comes in in the second quarter is yet to be determined," Childress said.

INJURY REPORT

LB Rufus Alexander (knee): torn ACL suffered Friday will land him on season-ending injured reserve

LB Jason Glenn (patella tendinitis): did not practice; day-to-day

LB John Kerr (back soreness): did not practice; day-to-day

RB Wendell Mathis (back): did not practice; day-to-day

DE Khreem Smith (knee/ankle): did not practice; day-to-day

CAMP CHATTER

"Oh yeah, fresh legs."

— Linebacker Chad Greenway's response, after veteran fullback Tony Richardson caught a pass over the middle and raced into the end zone during practice. Richardson was a healthy scratch for the Vikings' preseason opener, and thus had an additional day of rest.
