Don't ask me to explain and, really, don't try to explain it yourself.

Scott Baker vs. David Price. Looked like a mismatch. One of the XM guys Wednesday afternoon was pretty much guaranteeing that Price would win his 15th game of the season and it was hard to launch a reality-based counter-argument. Of course, last weekend he was pretty much guaranteeing that Adam Dunn was going to the White Sox. So maybe that was a sign.

At the end of a day that included some Section 219 commenters trying to come up with a "CrainWreck"-style nickname for Matt Guerrier, Tuesday's relief goat became Wednesday's relief hero by pitching a perfect 12th and 13th in the 2-1 victory.

There was just enough successful offense mixed in with the bad at-bats and Scott Baker's best start of the season, during which he didn't flinch when outfield misplays by Denard Span turned two fly balls into doubles. The Rays finally scored when Delmon Young turned a leadoff fly ball in the ninth into another double off Matt Capps.

It was a big ol' go figure of a night.

The Rays contributed by letting long man Lance Cormier pitch the final four innings, kind of a reprise of Detroit's Fernando Rodney role from Game 163 last season.

The difference was that Cormier came into the game putting on almost two baserunners per inning (70 runners/36 innings) and eight more walks than strikeouts. Yet he somehow got the Twins to flail at his pitches for three innings before Alexi Casilla walked, Joe Mauer bounced a single to right (that Casilla would have fielded) and Delmon poked a hanging breaking ball into right left for an RBI single.

Then Guerrier took care of the top of the order in the 13th with the same success that he'd had against the bottom of the order in the 12th.

Don't ask. Just accept it.

There's 11 a.m. baseball today -- an excellent workplace distraction.

There are few events other than a baseball game that get the Section 219 seal of approval. One of them is Dairy Queen's Miracle Treat Day, which is the best excuse to skip lunch (which you'll do because you're watching the Twins) and have a Blizzard. Here's the deal: When you buy a Blizzard today, at least $1 from your purchase goes to the local Children's Miracle Network hospital. In the Twin Cities, that benefits Gillette Children's Hospital.

And here's a tip for folks in the metro area: The DQ just off Hwy. 100 at the 77th Street exit in Edina gives all the proceeds (not just a portion) from your Blizzard buy to Gillette.

That's reason enough to order a large, even if you don't finish it.
