Twins hit the field at 2 p.m. for an early workout as they play the first of three games at Kauffman Stadium.

Will check back later with updates -  including a check up on Denard Span

Update: Denard Span still didn't feel well today and was unable to take the field for early workouts, so Jason Repko is back in center field.

Jose Morales is here - wearing braces - and will primarily be a pinch hitter and emergency catching relief. After batting .238 in June he was batting .318 this month when he was called up.

Drew Butera remains the primary backup. He's scoring a lot of points with the pitching staff for his game-calling ability. Pitcher's ERAs are 3.76 in games Butera has caught versus 4.24 for Joe Mauer.

Delmon Young is starting in the cleanup sport for the first time in his Twins career and third time ever. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Young has driven in runs wherever he's put him in the lineup, and the fact that he's rolling right now might provide Joe Mauer a little protection - if anyone is pitching around him.
