La Velle E. Neal III has covered baseball for the Star Tribune since 1998 (the post-Knoblauch era). Born and raised in Chicago, he grew up following the White Sox and hating the Cubs. He attended both the University of Illinois and Illinois-Chicago and began his baseball writing career at the Kansas City Star. He can be heard occasionally on KFAN radio, lending his great baseball mind to Paul Allen and other hosts. Mark Rosen borrows him occasionally for WCCO-TV.
Another beautiful, yet balmy, day here at Target Field as the Twins and Rays prepare to throw down and a packed house hangs around later for the big fireworks show.
I hope the Twins don't hold anything back with the fireworks. Everyone who's downtown will be able to see them.
J.J. Hardy is expected to play one more rehab game at Class A Beloit before joining the team for tomorrow's game.
Interesting stuff from the Twins baseball communications department: The Twins once were 27-5 against Tampa Bay but in the last 21 games are 9-12.
Now from the Rays notes: The last pitcher David Price's age or younger to lead the league in wins and ERA on this date was Scott Erickson in 1991 while with the Twins.
Will check back with more updates
Update: Hardy, indeed, is expected to join the club tomorrow.
Looks like it will be for Matt Tolbert, who injured a finger during Wednesday's game and can't throw, So we expect a roster move following the game tonight - provided Hardy survives another night in Beloit.
