YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES
La Velle E. Neal III has covered baseball for the Star Tribune since 1998 (the post-Knoblauch era). Born and raised in Chicago, he grew up following the White Sox and hating the Cubs. He attended both the University of Illinois and Illinois-Chicago and began his baseball writing career at the Kansas City Star. He can be heard occasionally on KFAN radio, lending his great baseball mind to Paul Allen and other hosts. Mark Rosen borrows him occasionally for WCCO-TV.
The left side of the infield has a Rochester look to it, with Trevor Plouffe and Danny Valencia starting today. Plouffe is batting second, as Twins manager Ron Gardenhire prefers to leave Joe Mauer in the No.3 hole.
Tim Hudson is 6-2 with a 2.12 ERA in his career against the Twins but hasn't faced them since 2007.
Denard Span still can't believe Joe Mauer's drive in the third inning yesterday didn't fall in for a hit. ``I thought I did everything right,'' he said. It didn't, as Span was doubled up at second and Nick Punto failed to score before the out was made. ``You just have to turn the page,'' Span said.
