Slowey dominates Royals, Greinke struggles

Kevin Slowey was outstanding Tuesday night in the Twins' 7-3 win over Zack Greinke and the Kansas City Royals, highlighted by a 13-up, 13-down start to the game for the Minnesota right-hander.  After seven solid innings, he allowed just three hits and struck out three to lower his ERA to 3.45 and bring his record to 7-3.

The reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, on the other hand, gave up an uncharacteristic six earned runs on nine hits over just five innings, watching his ERA soar above four for the first time this season.

Jason Kubel jacked his seventh homer of the season and nailed a two-run double in the first inning to give the Twins an early 3-0 lead before Span drove in a couple more in the fourth. Slowey was looking at a shutout before Michael Cuddyer botched a routine fly ball and Jose Mijares surrendered two unearned runs.  On the bright side, this all made a Matt Guerrier save possible.

Carl Pavano gets the ball tonight against Kyle Davies, who is 4-5 with a 4.80 ERA in nine career starts against the Twins.  Meanwhile, Pavano -- I hope he's still rocking the mustache -- is 5-5 with an unsightly 7.21 ERA in 10 starts, including one relief appearance, against KC.
