Rainy night at Target Field

Posted by: Jim Souhan under Ron Gardenhire, Target Field, Twins fans, Twins management, NBA playoffs Updated: May 25, 2010 - 10:29 PM

So we get a squirrel running on the field, a rain delay, a suspended game all in the same night. ``Mother Nature,'' Ron Gardenhire said, ``wanted to water her plants.''

But as I write this, the sky is clear and there is no reason for the Twins and Yankees not to be playing. This decision costs Scott Baker the opportunity for what would be one of the most impressive victories of his career.

Brian Duensing will start the suspended game, which will resume at 4:05 on Wednesday. The regularly-scheduled game on Wednesday will either be played at its regular time of 6:10 p.m. or will begin a half-hour after the conclusion of the first game.

Target Field will open at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Tickets for Tuesday's game are not subject to refunds or exchanges because more than five innings were completed. (Which is why it's offensive that the game wasn't resumed under clear skies at 10-ish on Tuesday night.)

-I'm stunned, but suddenly the decrepit Boston Celtics are the favorites to win the NBA title. They're the best defensive team, the toughest team, and the most diverse team, with Rondo, Garnett, Pierce and Allen providing four go-to guys. With Andrew Bynum's knee hurting, the Lakers suddenly look vulnerable.

And if the Lakers go down, my guess is that Phil Jackson will retire. He doesn't really want to leave LA, but he also doesn't want to take a huge pay cut, and he doesn't want to start all over with a new team that might not win him a championship. I think the man is done.

-I'll be on 1500ESPN at 2:40 on Wednesday to talk Twins with Pat and Joe. Pat and I are also shooting a video for startribune.com Wednesday morning; it should be up sometime during the day.

-I wrote about Justin Morneau's excellent play this season for the Wednesday paper. I'm covering the Wednesday games, and Pat will cover Thursday for Friday.
