Game 1 ended at 2:46 p.m., leaving the Twins and Orioles almost 4 1/2 hours to get ready for Game 2 of the first doubleheader at Target Field.

Some players might even nap, Michael Cuddyer said, though he didn't want to doze off and risk feeling groggy tonight.

"We've gotta find a way to get a little more energy for tonight's ballgame and go from there," Manager Ron Gardenhire said.

The Twins are now 0-2 against an Orioles team that was 7-21 entering the series.

It sounded like Joe Mauer might be ready to pinch hit or even start tonight, but he's still got a ways to go, Gardenhire said. The Twins will see "where he's at tomorrow or even Tuesday," the manager added.

"You can't just stick a guy out there because he's got some orthotics in his shoes," Gardenhire said. "It feels a lot better, but his foot's not well. It's definitely not totally healed. He's still got soreness in there. You can't say, 'OK here you go, we need you to hit right now.'

"He's anxious. He really wants to play, but he also knows his foot's not quite there yet. ... We don't want him to bang it, or he could be out a long, long time."
