YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES
La Velle E. Neal III has covered baseball for the Star Tribune since 1998 (the post-Knoblauch era). Born and raised in Chicago, he grew up following the White Sox and hating the Cubs. He attended both the University of Illinois and Illinois-Chicago and began his baseball writing career at the Kansas City Star. He can be heard occasionally on KFAN radio, lending his great baseball mind to Paul Allen and other hosts. Mark Rosen borrows him occasionally for WCCO-TV.
A steady rain has fallen all afternoon here, and Twins fans in town for the series have been burning up my e-mail and twitter account (@LaVelleNeal) with questions about game time..
The latest from manager Ron Gardenhire: It's supposed to stop raining around 7 or 8 p,m,. so everyone expects this game to be played. It's Zack Greinke bobblehead night here, so the feeling is that the Royals will do all they can to play ball tonight.
UPDATE: THEY ARE SHOOTING TO START ON TIME! THE GROUNDSCREW IS PULLING THE TARP OFF THE FIELD AS OF THIS 5:15 WRITING....
Luke Hughes has joined the team from Class AAA Rochester. He said he woke up his mother in Perth, Australia around 5:15 a.m. her time with the news. Gardy said Hughes could be used at third, second and the outfield in a reserve role.
Leftover from last night: Denard Span executed a very good takeout slide on Royals second baseman Alberto Callaspo to break up a double play, resulting in a wild throw to first that allowed a run to score.
The Twins have been very aggressive on the bases since the start of the season, and that was the latest example.
``You have to play hard nosed baseball,'' Gardenhire said. ``He got us a run. Just playing aggressive baseball and playing hard. You get on the guy's feet and you force issues.''
Will keep you posted on the expected first pitch time!
