La Velle E. Neal III has covered baseball for the Star Tribune since 1998 (the post-Knoblauch era). Born and raised in Chicago, he grew up following the White Sox and hating the Cubs. He attended both the University of Illinois and Illinois-Chicago and began his baseball writing career at the Kansas City Star. He can be heard occasionally on KFAN radio, lending his great baseball mind to Paul Allen and other hosts. Mark Rosen borrows him occasionally for WCCO-TV.

Nick Punto (sore groin muscle) is expected to go through an whole pre-game routine today and be available for the game. He'll probably be back in the lineup tomorrow.
Heard that reliever Jose Mijares (elbow) could head out on a minor league rehab assignment once his stint on the 15-day DL ends.
Haven't received an update on Pat Neshek (sore middle finger) yet.
Cleveland catcher Mike Redmond spent the early afternoon chatting with his former Twins teammates on the field.Starter Lou Marson is batting .091 but Red Dog is not in the lineup.
Heard that Glen Perkins needed 70 pitches to get through 3.1 innings on Sunday for Class AAA Rochester. He's 0-1 with a 9.95 ERA in two outings.
Russell Branyan has been activated from the DL and is in today's lineup. I'm sure Indians manager Manny Acta noticed that Branyan is 5-for-12 with two homers against Twins righthander Kevin Slowey.
