Startribune.com sports coordinator Howard Sinker used to cover the Twins and now shares season tickets with friends in Section 219 of Target Field. He blogs about baseball from the perspective of a long-time fan who loves the game, doesn’t always believe the hype and likes hearing what others think.

Pat Aarons grew up in the picturesque southwest Minnesota town of Redwood Falls and says, "We always listened to the Twins games on the radio, so the Twins were part of the backdrop of most of my summertime childhood memories." She comments on startribune.com blogs as “msborders,” in honor of Ila Borders, the former female minor league pitcher.

My Top Ten Highlights of Week One at Target Field:

10. Thome, Hardy and Hudson are not Lamb, Everett, White, Cirillo, et al. It’s great to see the contributions these newcomers to the team are making both with their bats and on the field (Hardy and Hudson).

9. Dick-’n-Bert’s 248 (yes, I counted) references to Target Field firsts: “This is the first time in 22 years that we actually get to see a raindrop drip off of a major league baseball player’s nose in Minnesota.” (Okay, so I made that one up, but you get the point.)

8. Bert’s comment that he can’t wait to hear what Ozzie Guillen has to say the first time he sees this ballpark. I can’t wait for the Twins to whip their… Well, anyway, Ozzie said the White Sox would have a decided advantage over the Twins playing in the cold. Time will tell.

7. Carew, Killebrew, Oliva, Hrbek & Kirby Jr. greeting the fans entering Target Field on opening day.

6. Seeing the first beer and hot dog consumed at Target Field captured on FSN-North. NOT! Does anyone really care? And do they still have the turkey brats? Those were my favorites at the Metrodome!

5. The greenest grass in the world!

4. Twins take the first two series behind (mostly) strong pitching, hitting and defense. The team will have its ups and downs this year, but they sport a that lineup appears to be potent enough to make up for whatever flaws will be exposed over the course of 162 games.

3. Mauer playing in a day game after a night game, due to not having to deal with the turf. Mauer able to play more = a good thing!

2. Military Flyover on Opening Day! Absolutely loved that!

1. Franchise is back!! Will 2010 finally be his encore to 2006?
