Phil Miller covered three seasons of Twins baseball, but that was at a different ballpark for a different newspaper. Now Miller returns to the baseball beat after joining the Star Tribune as the Gopher football writer in 2010, and he won't miss the dingy dome for a minute. In addition to the Twins and Gophers, Miller covered the Utah Jazz and the NBA for six years at The Salt Lake Tribune.

Twins sign Span to a five-year, $16.5 million deal

CLEARWATER -- The Twins have signed center fielder Denard Span to a five-year, $16.5 million contract with a $9 million club option for 2015.

Here's a breakdown of the contract:

2010: $750,000

2011: $1 million

2012: $3 million

2013: $4.75 million

2014: $6.5 million

2015: Club option for $9 million ($500,000 buyout)

"It's a great feeling," Span said. "I'm definitely not angry today."

Blue skies and sunshine here at Bright House Field, one of the nicest spring training stadiums in Florida. Today, the Twins will challenge the two-time defending NL champion Phillies, who are trotting out their A-lineup.
