The Twins on Monday officially named Derek Falvey their Executive Vice President, Chief Baseball Officer, making him one of the youngest executives in the game. Falvey, 33, comes from the Cleveland Indians organization, where he spent the last nine seasons, the last one as assistant General Manager. That means the Twins are putting a lot of faith into someone as young and inexperienced as Falvey, who has never been a GM. But Falvey is considered a bright young mind who blends skills in modern statistical analysis while understanding those who also go on the eye test. His communication skills are said to be strong, and he embraces collaborative communication. ``We believe Derek represents the next generation of dynamic, game-changing MLB leaders," Twins president Dave St. Peter said in a statement. ``We expect Derek to create positive change directed of restoring our winning tradition." Falvey will join the Twins when the Indians' playoff run ends. He is instrumental in Cleveland's advanced scouting of opponents, which makes him invaluable during the postseason. A formal press conference will be scheduled when Falvey can start with the Twins. The league office had to sign off on this deal, making sure there is no conflict of interest. Interim GM Rob Antony will remain in his role until Falvey begins his tenure with the Twins. ``It's a tremendous honor to have the opportunity to lead the Twins baseball operation," Falvey said in a statement. `` This is a proud, resilient franchise, and I'm eager to return the championship-caliber baseball to the Twin Cities."
