THE LATEST: The Twins and Royals are going to try to get this one in. Joe Mauer will be batting with Jorge Polanco on second base when play resumes at 11:45 p.m. Thanks for your patience (?).

The Twins tied the game 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning, and then the game went into a rain delay around 8:40 p.m.

It's time for Jose Berrios to start showing why the Twins consider him to be a top pitching prospects.

After seven starts, Berrios is 2-3 with a 9.32 ERA. That has led to him having two bullpen sessions since his last start, as the club tries to get him mechanically sound. Twins pitching coach Neil Allen told me yesterday that Berrios has some mechanical things he needs to address during the offseason but, for now, they will try to make minor adjustments to during the final weeks of the regular season.

Berrios has a fastball that can reach the mid-90's plus a good change up and curve. He's one of their most talented pitchers, but that talent has not showed up in two major league stints this season. He falls behind with his fastball or he doesn't get his breaking ball over and get into trouble.

Let's see if working faster and concentrating on hitting both sides of the plate with his fastball will help Berrios pitch deep into the game..

In a minor league move, the Twins have sent lefthanded reliever Sean Burnett to the Nationals for a player to be named later or cash.

Burnett, 33, has pitched in 370 major league games but none last year and only 16 over the previous two seasons. He has pitched with the Dodgers, Braves and Twins organizations this season season, posting a 2.15 ERA in 29 games with Class AAA Rochester after signing as a minor league free agent.

Burnett was under consideration to be called up last week when the Twins were looking for emergency arms. It's believed that he had an out clause in his contract that was approaching.

The guess here is that the Twins could get a player in return if Burnett makes his way to Nationals' major league team and contributes.

Two more things to know about tonight:

1. Rain. There's a storm slowly moving in from the west. It's crossing Salina right now and then it will close in on Topeka. Will it arrive here in time to affect the Twins-Royals game?

2. Promotion: It's Zombie Night here. Fans are encouraged to dress in family friendly zombie attire (whatever that means) for tonight's game. Should be interesting to watch on television, for those of you not making the trip for this massive matchup.

Will check back later with updates
