It will be interesting what type mark Rob Antony leaves during his tenure as GM - no matter how long that is. Antony has been appointed interim GM after Terry Ryan was fired on Monday. It was Ryan who has encouraged Antony to be his own man, to not hold back with the thoughts and ideas he has presented in the past.

``He said go ahead and put them in play," Antony said.

And Antony will try to do that as Twins fans wait to see how he will navigate the franchise through the upcoming trade deadline. Antony has slowly risen up the ladder in the baseball operations department. Ryan gave him authority to negotiate contracts several years ago, and he has worked to lock up Twins to deals going back to Justin Morneau and Michael Cuddyer in 2008.

Now Antony's role is expanded, but he's not going to delegate any duties to others in the department, like player personnel chief Mike Radcliff or director of baseball research Jack Goin.

``I think what I need most from them is for everyone to continue to do what they are doing," Antony said. ``That's going to contribute to what we do. It's no different if Terry was still here, Jack would be doing his same thing and as would Mike and everybody else. The same people are going to come to town for the trade deadline. we're going to do things the same way, but we are going to have different ideas and different approaches. I've already talked to some people about some things we can do differently and how can we be more productive and maybe generate a little more conversation."

Antony on Tuesday will watch his team try to avoid a three-game losing streak when they face Anibal Sanchez and the Tigers at Comerica Park. Lefthander Tommy Milone is on the mound for the Twins. And every time he doesn't pitch well there will be a movement to get rookie Jose Berrios back up from Rochester and into the rotation. But Milone might be motivated to pitch well now that he's a daddy for the first time.

Will check back later with lineups.

UPDATE:

Anibal Sanchez is doing worse against righthanded hitters (.321 BAA) than lefthanded hitters (.272). But he's 4-3 with a 2.72 ERA in his career against the Twins. Last May, he held the Twins to one run over eight innings to lead Detoit to victory.

Interim GM Rob Antony has been in contact with nine clubs today after speaking with a handful on Monday. He's definitely working the phones to see if a trade possibility is out there.
