UPDATE: The Twins have placed outfielder Sam Fuld on the 7-day concussion DL and have called up infielder Eduardo Nunez from Class AAA Rochester. Rochester is in Columbus so Nunez drove up for the game and is on the lineup card.

This is one big mess.

Ron Gardenhire came to the ballpark already down a one bench player in Joe Mauer. Things got worse from there.

Sam Fuld came to the ballpark with a massive headache and is undergoing tests for a concussion. They Twins are wondering if Fuld had some lingering effects from hitting the wall in Target Field last week.

Because Fuld is out, Eduardo Escobar, who made his first career start in the outfield on Wednesday, is now starting in center field.

Gardy also brought up the possibility of putting Mauer on the disabled list if he can't play, ``by Friday or Saturday." So......look for Mauer to land on the DL.

The Twins are trying to get someone up from Rochester during the game just to fill out the bench (Eduardo Nunez?). Good thing Rochester is in Columbus tonight. (They did, and he's here).

Just think. The Twins were ready to announce last night that Oswaldo Arcia was joining the team, but he reported soreness yesterday and probably need a couple days to work through it.

Just think. The Twins projected starting outfield of Josh Willingham, Aaron Hicks and Arcia have been together for three games. Three

Just think. The Twins have lost Alex Pressly and Darin Mastroianni on waivers and Jason Bartlett to retirement. Not many options.

Matt Guerrier is here, but the Twins have to make room on the 40-man roster for him (should be announced shortly). But they might have to make more room t add another position player. They could move Josh Willingham to the 60-day DL, but that's just one move.

Hicks, Gardenhire said, is coming off of the concussion DL tomorrow and is expected to join the team in Detroit. But that doesn't help the Twins today. I don't remember the last time I've covered a team with one bench player at the start of the game.

There are five players in the lineup today who were NOT in the Opening Day starting lineup.

What. A. Mess.
