Righthander Tim Wood has a strained right rotator cuff, damaging his chances of making the Opening Day roster.

Wood looked sharp on Saturday as he threw a scoreless inning against Tampa Bay but reported soreness when he arrived at the park today.

He won't get on a mound until the soreness goes away, and the Twins aren't sure when that will happen. Wood's injury opens things up for other relievers in camp like Josh Roenicke to make the team.

It's another tough break for the Twins, who are waiting for righthander Samuel Deduno to get over a left groin strain.

We return to regular programming....

P.J. Walters, here's your chance.

The righthander has been on the fringe of the battle for spots in the starting rotation. Actually, he pitched out of the bullpen in every outing this spring and hasn't gone longer than three innings.

That changes today when he gets the start against the Blue Jays. The Twins are going to stretch him out and see if he can be a factor in the race to pitch in 40-degree weather next week.

With Samuel Deduno out with a sore left groin, the Twins are looking for more options as they assemble their 2014 rotation. Walters can join Cole De Vries and Liam Hendricks in that battle. The way De Vries has pitched, you'd have to think that he's nearly a lock for the rotation, but camp isn't over yet.
Ryan Pressly and Josh Roenicke are both on the list to pitch in today's game. Big spots for both of them as they compete for a spot in the bullpen.

We're at the point in camp where one bad game could send someone packing the next morning. We'll see who responds.
