On the Chicago Tribune's sports website Sunday morning, the dominant story was about the White Sox trade for Francisco Liriano.
White Sox beat writer Mark Gonzalez opened his report: "In a bold move to bolster their rotation, the White Sox acquired left-hander Francisco Liriano from the American League Central-rival Twins for popular backup infielder Eduardo Escobar and left-handed pitcher Pedro Hernandez."
The Tribune also quoted former Twins pitcher Philip Humber in a quote that will be a head-scratcher to many who follow the Twins: "He's one of those guys who makes the guys around him better, just by the way he is."
Here's Tribune video of White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper, who will try to figure out what Rick Anderson couldn't, talking about the trade.
Bleacher Report blogger Jon Fromi in Chicago wrote his trade analysis, which is headlined:
Fromi wrote: "This trade reinforces the notion that Williams is once again doing all he can to win now."
As of 11 a.m. Sunday, approval of the Liriano trade was at 69 percent in a Chicago Tribune internet poll, which presumably was not a poll in which Minnesotans were voting.
At least some Sox fans aren't buying the hype:
@CST_soxvan LMAO Liriano????

In the Chicago Sun-Times, White Sox manager Robin Ventura talked about the difficulty of losing infielder Eduardo Escobar, who should eventually be headed for the Twins' middle infield mix.
Ventura said: “You do everything you possibly can to make us better pitching-wise. But it’s tough after a good win like this because Escobar is a big part of what we’re doing. It’s more than numbers and how he plays; it’s everybody living together a long time. It’s a tough one team-wise. He’s kind of like the little brother or a son. He’s taking it hard. It’s part of baseball. It happens to a lot of people. But it will make us better.’’
Here's the complete story, and good luck with the "make us better" part, Skip.
